We woke up early once again and headed down to breakfast, then out to do a little shopping. We left the hotel at 9:45 and arrived at the airport about 10:00AM for a 1:00 flight. About noon we were informed that we had serious headwinds, a fully booked flight and excess baggage, so they would not be able to put enough fuel on the airplane to get us back to Atlanta. Oooooops!!!  If you didn’t know, Tegucigalpa is one of the most dangerous airports in the world to land in.  We were very nervous.

The solution was to stop at an airport at the northwest end of Honduras and refuel, so we could make it to Atlanta. We boarded an hour late, made a stop in San Pedro Sula for about 20 minutes and were on our way once again.  We arrived at Concourse E at the airport in Atlanta and made a 15 minute walk to Concourse F at the international airport to go through immigration, pick up our bags, then go through customs.  We were all on our way back home within 50 minutes of landing.  What a wonderful airport. Still not sure why we had to dock at Gate E, but……… I’m sure there’s a good reason.
There are a couple of us that are talking about going a few days early next year to see some ruins.  We’ll see.
Until next year………………

About lynntclarke

I am an attorney by trade, but love to travel. I am in my "golden" years and decided to blog about some of my trips, mainly to keep a diary of my experiences, so that I can do picture books for my travels and remember what I did each day. When you travel, you tend to forget the day before as you are having such wonderful new experiences. The blog will be there forever, I suppose, but memories fade fast. I hope you learn something worthwhile as you read. If not, then that is okay, too. Enjoy your own travels!!!
