Today we made arrangements for a full day private tour to get a taste and overview of the entire city.  We booked through aviator and our guide was Gina. She was awesome and met us at the Sagrada Familia.  We were able to bypass the line and go straight in, actually a little before 9:00 when they opened.  The inside was very interesting with some strange arches that held up the massive steeples and was very tall.  She talked about Gaudi and the way he designed.  He used no numbers, but engineered it with weights of sand.  It was fascinating.  The outside was cluttered with statues, but there were none on the inside.  We looked through the museum and she explained still more.  We then walked to the Gothic quarter, which was much like a very old neighborhood with lots of shopping.  We saw churches and ate lunch at the Boqueria market.  It was a bit overwhelming at first, but then we each got our lunch and took it outside for a picnic.  After we ate, we each had a glass of cava ( sparkling wine), which is a favorite here.  We walked down Las Ramblas for a bit and ended up at Plaça de Catalunya, where we met our driver with a nice Mercedes van. We drove by several places where we would visit in depth later, including Le Pedera.  We stopped at the Olympic pool to take a look and then drove to Montjuic where we got out and walked around for a bit and looked over the city towards the wharf and beaches.  We then drove down to the beach and walked along the beach for awhile, checking out the menus of the restaurants and the topless sunbathing.  We walked back to the marina, took a picture and got back into the van.  We circled back to our apartment, where we hung out with some wine and beer on the terrace.  We made a reservation at at El Disbarat, which was okay.  We did think we would get a 30% discount, but they did not honor it.  It was expensive and not that good, although we had fun.  We took the Metro there and walked the 2 miles back to our apartment.  It seemed a little sketchy at first, but it was fun to see Barcelona at 11:00 at night.   There was lots of activity.  We came back to the apartment and discussed our day, then went to sleep.

About lynntclarke

I am an attorney by trade, but love to travel. I am in my "golden" years and decided to blog about some of my trips, mainly to keep a diary of my experiences, so that I can do picture books for my travels and remember what I did each day. When you travel, you tend to forget the day before as you are having such wonderful new experiences. The blog will be there forever, I suppose, but memories fade fast. I hope you learn something worthwhile as you read. If not, then that is okay, too. Enjoy your own travels!!!
